Accelerating research applications

Singulex Single Molecule Counting (SMCTM) technology can play a role in accelerating your research applications. Experience the power of Single Molecule Counting:

  • Better sensitivity and precision
  • Quantitation at lower analyte concentrations
  • New research opportunities that were not previously available

Many application areas are enhanced by Singulex SMC technology, including:

Cardiovascular
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Several biomarkers have been linked to increased risk for cardiovascular problems. Cardiac Troponin-I (cTnI) is specific to cardiomyocytes and is released into blood following heart damage. This biomarker has been widely accepted in preclinical and clinical drug development settings as an indicator of myocardial damage.

Inflammation & Cytokines
Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury. Many types of inflammation, especially chronic inflammation states, are mediated by cytokines, which are proteins that perform functional roles regulating immune system responses. Elevated levels of cytokine expression have been associated with a variety of diseases from diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, and others.

Metabolism
Diabetes and associated metabolic disorders are related to resistance to, or an inability to produce insulin. Insulin levels are enhanced by the presence of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) which exists in active and inactive forms. Glucagon levels are also decreased by the presence of GLP-1. The production of GLP-1 by L-cells in the intestine makes it an interesting biomarker target. Putative roles that GLP-1 may have in inducing satiety make it a biomarker of interest for obesity.

Oncology
Much of oncology-related research has focused on gaining control of a PI3K pathway. Multiple targets within this signal transduction cascade are studied as potential therapeutic targets within cancerous cells. Secreted biomarkers associated with angiogenesis, such as VEGF, have also shown interest as a therapeutic target.
