Philippe J. Goix, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Philippe Goix has more than a decade of entrepreneurial biotechnology experience, successfully leading fast growing, product-centered, innovative companies backed by institutional venture capitalists. Since joining Singulex in September 2004, Dr. Goix has driven Singulex technology toward commercialization, secured strategic intellectual property for its technology, raised several “up rounds” of funding, and built a strong reagent and diagnostics commercialization strategy.

Prior to joining Singulex, Philippe Goix founded Guava Technologies, Inc., where he held successive positions as president and chief technology officer. Dr. Goix founded Guava in June 1997 and led the company as it established a presence in the life science market. Under his leadership, Guava assembled industry-leading executives, raised capital to develop its proprietary technology, defined a strategy to commercialization, and identified a very strong demand for future products in the life science marketplace. Guava Technologies currently has over 1,200 systems in the field. Prior to this experience, Dr. Goix worked for more than 15 years in the field of laser analytical devices applied to fluid mechanics. He worked at CNRS in France, as a charge de recherché, at Sandia National Laboratories, and at Stanford University as a scientist, where he developed sophisticated laser-based diagnostic tools to investigate complex fluidics systems. Dr. Goix holds a doctorate in physics from University of Rouen, France and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.

Gulshan H. Shaver, JD
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Gulshan Shaver joined Singulex in November 2007. Prior to joining Singulex, she held several legal positions over a period of five years at Perlegen Sciences, Inc., most recently as Vice President of Legal Affairs. At Perlegen she was responsible for developing and implementing a robust patent strategy, and for oversight and management of contracts and general corporate legal matters. From April 2000 through February 2003, Ms. Shaver was Director, Intellectual Property at Caliper Technologies, Inc. where she helped create and manage a leading Intellectual Property portfolio in microfluidic technology (named as 8th and 2nd strongest patent estate by MIT Technology Review for 2002 and 2003, respectively). Ms. Shaver has a strong technical background with academic training in organic chemistry and chemical engineering. Prior to starting her legal career, she was a research scientist at several leading pharmaceutical companies, including Allergan, Inc., Syntex Research, and Gilead Sciences, Inc.

Gulshan Shaver received a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University and a bachelor’s degree in organic chemistry from the University of Poona, India.

Guido Baechler
Vice President, Diagnostics
Guido Baechler joined Singulex in February 2008 to direct the formation, implementation, and management of its diagnostic business. He is a flexible, innovative leader with a proven track record of building high performing teams able to deliver business critical results under aggressive timelines. Mr. Baechler came to Singulex from Roche Molecular Diagnostics (RMD), where as Head of Operational Project Management he led the implementation of the diagnostic project pipeline. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Global Program Management and a member of its RMD executive team. From 1989, Mr. Baechler held leadership positions at Roche within Research, Development, and Marketing in Switzerland and California. Guido Baechler is a native of Lucerne, Switzerland and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He completed a series of executive finance and management classes at the London School of Business and at the Hass Business School in Berkeley.

Robert S. Puskas, Ph.D.
Founder and Chief Technical Officer
Robert Puskas founded Singulex and has served in various capacities such as president, chief executive officer, and member of the board of directors since the company's inception. Today Dr. Puskas serves as chief technology officer, providing guidance to the company’s future product development projects. Before founding Singulex, Dr. Puskas served as the department head of the molecular biology department at Sigma Chemical Company. Prior to joining Sigma, he was a senior staff fellow at the National Cancer Institute and a staff fellow in the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Puskas received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Case Western University, a master of science in bacteriology from North Dakota State University, and a doctorate in microbiology from Pennsylvania State University.

John A. Todd, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research & Development
John Todd is a seasoned biotech executive with significant accomplishments in strategic and tactical marketing, business and product development, and IP management. He served as vice president of marketing at NuGEN Technologies and as senior director of business development at Protogene Laboratories. Dr. Todd has also held management positions at Chiron Corporation and worked in assay development at Baxter Healthcare and Enzo Biochem. He has eight patents, has written 34 scientific publications and 62 scientific abstracts, has presented at over 100 biomedical/life science conferences, and written two funded phase I grants and one funded phase II SBIR grant.

Dr. Todd received a bachelors of science in biology from the University of Southern California, a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Southern California Medical Center, and performed his postdoctoral training in cell and molecular biology at the Sabatini lab at the New York University Medical Center.

Christopher M. Scannell, MBA
Vice President, Business Development
For over 17 years, Christopher Scannell has worked as a business development, technical marketing, and sales executive in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. His experience includes strategic partnerships and alliances, therapeutic licensing, product development and clinical trial outsourcing, molecular diagnostics and medical devices, and new technology platform development for proteomic and genomic concerns. Mr. Scannell has held executive positions at CuraGen, AAI, Inc., Amoco Technology–Gene Trak, and Haemonetics.

Christopher Scannell earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and an MBA in high technology from Northeastern University.

Kevin McGrath, MBA
Vice President, Finance & Administration
Mr. McGrath joined Singulex in January 2007 and brought over 25 years of broad financial management experience spanning from venture-backed companies to large corporations. Prior to joining Singulex, Kevin served in various management capacities of increasing responsibility with biotech, medical device and high-tech companies such as Guava Technologies, GN ReSound, Siemens, and DuPont. Kevin earned an MBA in finance from the University of New Hampshire and a bachelor of arts with honors in political science from Boston College.
