Philippe J. Goix, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Philippe Goix has more than a decade of entrepreneurial biotechnology experience, successfully leading fast growing, product-centered, innovative companies backed by institutional venture capitalists. Since joining Singulex in September 2004, Dr. Goix has driven Singulex technology toward commercialization, secured strategic intellectual property for its technology, raised several “up rounds” of funding, and built a strong reagent and diagnostics commercialization strategy.
Prior to joining Singulex, Philippe Goix founded Guava Technologies, Inc., where he held successive positions as president and chief technology officer. Dr. Goix founded Guava in June 1997 and led the company as it established a presence in the life science market. Under his leadership, Guava assembled industry-leading executives, raised capital to develop its proprietary technology, defined a strategy to commercialization, and identified a very strong demand for future products in the life science marketplace. Guava Technologies currently has over 1,200 systems in the field. Prior to this experience, Dr. Goix worked for more than 15 years in the field of laser analytical devices applied to fluid mechanics. He worked at CNRS in France, as a charge de recherché, at Sandia National Laboratories, and at Stanford University as a scientist, where he developed sophisticated laser-based diagnostic tools to investigate complex fluidics systems. Dr. Goix holds a doctorate in physics from University of Rouen, France and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.
Guido Baechler
Senior Vice President of Operations
Guido Baechler joined Singulex in February 2008 to direct the formation, implementation, and management of its diagnostic business. He is a flexible, innovative leader with a proven track record of building high performing teams able to deliver business critical results under aggressive timelines. Mr. Baechler came to Singulex from Roche Molecular Diagnostics (RMD), where as Head of Operational Project Management he led the implementation of the diagnostic project pipeline. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Global Program Management and a member of its RMD executive team. From 1989, Mr. Baechler held leadership positions at Roche within Research, Development, and Marketing in Switzerland and California. Guido Baechler is a native of Lucerne, Switzerland and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He completed a series of executive finance and management classes at the London School of Business and at the Haas Business School in Berkeley.
John A. Todd, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research & Development
John Todd is a seasoned biotech executive with significant accomplishments in strategic and tactical marketing, business and product development, and IP management. He served as vice president of marketing at NuGEN Technologies and as senior director of business development at Protogene Laboratories. Dr. Todd has also held management positions at Chiron Corporation and worked in assay development at Baxter Healthcare and Enzo Biochem. He has eight patents, has written 34 scientific publications and 62 scientific abstracts, has presented at over 100 biomedical/life science conferences, and written two funded phase I grants and one funded phase II SBIR grant.
Dr. Todd received a bachelors of science in biology from the University of Southern California, a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Southern California Medical Center, and performed his postdoctoral training in cell and molecular biology at the Sabatini lab at the New York University Medical Center.
Gary S. Tom.
Director of Finance and Corporate Controller
Gary Tom joined Singulex in March 2009. A seasoned financial executive, Mr. Tom brings over 25 years of broad financial management experience in the Medical Diagnostics and Medical Device Industries, as well as expertise in the management of Healthcare Services, Higher Education and Financial Services. Before joining Singulex, he served as both the Director of Administration and the Director of Finance and Accounting/Controller at Berkeley HeartLab (a subsidiary of Celera Corporation). Mr. Tom was instrumental in transitioning Berkeley HeartLab into a well-respected, strong small-cap company that was acquired in 2007 for over 20x earnings. He also played a significant role in the success of three additional financing rounds, including the final sale of the company for almost $200 million.
Prior to Berkeley HeartLab, Mr. Tom held various senior level financial management positions for Ocular Sciences, Inc., the University of California at San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and Bank of America. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has an MBA from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science from University of California at Davis.
Lynn R. Zieske, Ph.D.
Vice President, Commercial Solutions
Lynn Zieske joined Singulex, Inc. in January 2009 to pilot a multi-faceted team to drive innovation and adoption of the Singulex technology in the Life Science marketplace. Dr. Zieske has over twenty years of experience directing product development and commercial life cycles with industry leading life science companies. He brings a unique blend of technical experience and executive management skills which has allowed him to achieve significant accomplishments in developing strategic business and marketing strategies. Prior to Singulex Dr. Zieske held numerous senior level managements positions for Guava Technologies and Applied Biosystems. Dr. Zieske is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the International AIDS Society and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.
Dr. Zieske received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry at St. John's University and a Doctorate in Biological and Analytical Chemistry from the University of Iowa. In addition, Dr. Zieske was a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa.
