Philippe J. Goix, Ph.D. President and Chief Executive Officer
Philippe Goix has more than a decade of entrepreneurial biotechnology experience, successfully leading fast growing, product-centered, innovative companies backed by institutional venture capitalists. Since joining Singulex in September 2004, Dr. Goix has driven Singulex technology toward commercialization, secured strategic intellectual property for its technology, raised several rounds of funding, and built a strong reagent and diagnostics commercialization strategy.
Prior to joining Singulex, Philippe Goix founded Guava Technologies, Inc., where he held successive positions as President and Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Goix founded Guava in June 1997 and led the company as it established a presence in the life science market. Under his leadership, Guava assembled industry-leading executives, raised capital to develop its proprietary technology, defined a strategy to commercialization, and identified a strong demand for future products in the life science marketplace. Prior to this experience, Dr. Goix worked for more than 15 years in the field of laser analytical devices applied to fluid mechanics. He worked at CNRS in France, as a Charge de Recherché, at Sandia National Laboratories, and at Stanford University as a scientist, where he developed sophisticated laser-based diagnostic tools to investigate complex fluidics systems. Dr. Goix holds a Doctorate in Physics from University of Rouen, France and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.
F. Steven Feinberg
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Chief Commercial Officer
Steven Feinberg has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He has a consistent track record of success with increasing business responsibility and broad senior management experience in sales and marketing with extensive emphasis in international operations and business development. Prior to joining Singulex, Mr. Feinberg was the Zone General Manager and Vice President for Siemens Healthcare where he was responsible for the healthcare business in the western zone of the United States. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Feinberg served as President and CEO of Siemens – Asahi Medical Technologies in Japan. From 2001 – 2006, he served as President, Siemens China Medical Solutions Group, and was appointed Executive Vice President and member of the Management Board for Siemens China in 2005. Prior to joining Siemens, Mr. Feinberg held various senior management positions for Acuson, Diasonics, General Electric and Medtronic. Mr. Feinberg received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California and received a Nuclear Medicine Technology Diploma from the University of Southern California.
Guido Baechler Senior Vice President Operations
Guido Baechler joined Singulex in February 2008 to direct the formation, implementation, and management of its diagnostic business. He is a flexible, innovative leader with a proven track record of building high performing teams able to deliver business critical results under aggressive timelines. Mr. Baechler came to Singulex from Roche Molecular Diagnostics (RMD), where as Head of Operational Project Management he led the implementation of the diagnostic project pipeline. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Global Program Management and a member of its RMD executive team. From 1989, Mr. Baechler held leadership positions at Roche within Research, Development, and Marketing in Switzerland and California. Guido Baechler is a native of Lucerne, Switzerland and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He completed a series of executive finance and management classes at the London School of Business and at the Hass Business School in Berkeley.
Donna Marie Seyfried Vice President Corporate Development
Donna Marie Seyfried is an independent consultant with over 25 years of corporate experience in the development of emerging markets in molecular diagnostics and life sciences, and has been instrumental in directing strategic investments, market development, and M&A in building high growth, profitable businesses. Prior to 2008, she served as Vice President, Business Development and Intellectual Property, and Officer of Digene Corporation/Qiagen from 1996 to 2007. Digene is a recognized leader in cervical cancer screening with its' proprietary HPV Test, the only FDA approved test for HPV, the cause of cervical cancer. Prior to Digene, she served as Director of Business Development for Applera (prior Perkin-Elmer Corporation) and held increasing roles from 1985-1996 including BU Director and was responsible for the commercialization of PCR Systems. She currently serves on the board of 20/20 Gene Systems Inc. and the University of Pennsylvania's Institute on Aging External Advisory Board.
Jeff Whitmore Vice President, North America Sales
Mr. Whitmore brings unique sales leadership experience with large public enterprises and small early-stage life science growth companies. Recently he served as VP of Imaging Sales with Cell Biosciences, a company focused on defining the future of protein analysis. Prior to Cell Biosciences, he served as Vice President of Global Sales at Alpha Innotech Corporation where he oversaw all aspects of the company's global sales and support organization. Jeff also served as Director of European Sales for Molecular Devices where he gained strategic insight into Europe's life science markets, priorities, and structures. He entered the Life Science market as a sales representative for Bio-Rad laboratories. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.
Eric Cevoz-Goyat General Manager, Singulex R&D Europe
Eric Cevoz-Goyat joined Singulex in December 2010 as General Manager for European Life Sciences Operations. Eric Cevoz-Goyat has a deep knowledge of the many facets of the pharmaceutical industry. Eric has over 12 years of experience in major companies, having held marketing and sales positions with increasing responsibilities at Zeneca, Schering-Plough then Novartis. He has a strong track record of successful product launches (in primary and specialty care domains including immunology), team setup and development as well as business growth in competitive markets. He then brings a unique blend of strategic and operational business management skills, together with a strong ability to understand customers' needs and constraints. Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, Eric Cevoz-Goyat has worked as an equine practitioner prior to joining the industry. He also holds an MBA from the HEC Business School (France).
Gary S. Tom Vice President & General Manager, Clinical Laboratory Sales & Support
Gary Tom joined Singulex in March 2009. Mr. Tom brings over 25 years of broad financial management experience in the Medical Diagnostics and Medical Device Industries, as well as expertise in the management of Healthcare Services, Higher Education and Financial Services. Before joining Singulex, he served as both the Director of Administration and the Director of Finance and Accounting/Controller at Berkeley HeartLab, Inc. Mr. Tom was instrumental in transitioning Berkeley HeartLab into a well-respected, strong, small-cap company that was acquired in 2007 for over 20x earnings. He also played a significant role in the success of three additional financing rounds, including the final sale of the company for almost $200 million. Prior to Berkeley HeartLab, Mr. Tom held various senior level financial management positions for Ocular Sciences, Inc., the University of California at San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, and Bank of America. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has an MBA from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science from University of California at Davis.
Howard Czapla Controller
Howard Czapla graduated from Canisious College in Buffalo, New York with a BS degree in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in California. He started his career in accounting and finance working for a CPA firm then as the Controller for other organizations. Howard has been in the high-tech industry since 1986. Howard was appointed President and CEO of Zendex Corp., an embedded board company in 1998. He returned Zendex to profitability and maintained status for more than 8 years. Howard served as a member of the American Electronics Association's (AeA) National Board of Directors representing the Bay Area Council for a term of three years (2005-2008) lobbying for the High-tech (including Medical Equipment) industry both in Washington D.C. and Sacrament CA.
Jeff Anderson, Ph.D. Director, Intellectual Property and Contracts Administration
Jeff Anderson joined Singulex in April 2010. Prior to joining Singulex, he served as Associate Director and then Director of Intellectual Property at ARYx Therapeutics for six years. At ARYx, Dr. Anderson was responsible for developing and implementing a robust yet economical patent strategy, resulting in a near 3-fold increase in the size of the portfolio with a less than 1.5-fold increase in budget, a key asset from which was successfully out-licensed to pharma. Prior to ARYx, Dr. Anderson worked for McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff, a Chicago intellectual property specialty law firm. Dr. Anderson has a strong technical and engineering background with academic training in biochemistry, organic chemistry and related disciplines. Dr. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California Davis, a Doctorate in Biochemistry from Northwestern University and performed postdoctoral training at Northwestern University.
